Hand Therapy Scarsdale, NY

WHAT IS OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY?

At NY Sports and Spinal, we believe in ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES. If an ongoing health condition or sudden injury has affected your ability to function, occupational therapists at NY Sports and Spinal can help you live your life to the fullest. We help improve your function and learn new ways to do the activities you enjoy. Because everyone is unique, our staff of highly experienced therapists uses a variety of treatment techniques that are specifically tailored to meet individual needs such as Hand Therapy.

Our occupational therapists get to know you and your goals, craft a customized treatment plan, and work with you to implement that plan. Both types of therapists bring a special set of skills, as outlined below:

  • Occupational therapists: Our occupational therapists can help you recover from mental or physical illness by participating in everyday activities or occupations. For example, an occupational therapist can help a child with a disability participate fully in the classroom and other social settings, help a child to catch a ball, help a person recovering from an injury regain lost skills such as buttoning a sweater, or provide support for older adults who are experiencing physical and cognitive changes related to aging.

WHAT IS HAND THERAPY?

The primary objective of NYSSPT’s certified hand therapy is to provide a comprehensive and specialist-powered program to maintain or improve functional independence and/or prevent deformities of the hand and upper extremity through appropriate therapeutic intervention, splinting, and patient education. Hand Therapy services are implemented by a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) who has completed advanced training in occupational or physical therapy. Feel free to contact our highly trained physical therapist at NY Sports and Spinal Physical Therapy.

The hand is a delicate and complex network of bones, cartilage, tendons, and ligaments, and is vital to activities of work and countless other everyday tasks. This makes the upper extremity (hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder) vulnerable to several injuries/conditions:

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome and other nerve compression syndromes from repetitive movement
  • Arthritis – joint inflammation
  • Post-op tendon and nerve repairs
  • Fractures and sprains from athletics or trauma
  • Tendonitis – e.g., tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, and shoulder impingement
  • Ligamentous instability, most often seen in the shoulder and wrist
  • Trigger finger- a condition in which a finger becomes stuck in a bent position
  • Wounds and burns

All patients receive one-on-one treatment from a certified hand therapist who will create your plan of treatment, using the highest clinical standards in the field. NYSSPT’s CHT is trained in the latest techniques in hand and arm rehabilitation to ensure that our patients recover quickly and safely.
